JMI
ANNOUNCES NEW EMBEDDED GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE FOR C EXECUTIVE
AND PSX
SAN
JOSE, CA, September 26, 2000 - JMI Software Systems announced
today a new GUI (Graphical User Interface) option for use with
JMI’s C EXECUTIVE and PSX real-time operating systems. JMI has
integrated Swell Software's popular PEG graphical user interface
to work with the two JMI kernels. The combination of JMI's highly
portable and scalable kernels and the capabilities of PEG now
offers system developers a wide range of candidate microprocessors
capable of hosting deeply embedded applications with a full graphical
interface for the user. The new offering, CE-GUI, is available
now for both C EXECUTIVE and PSX.
The combination of C EXECUTIVE's full-featured, scalable kernel
and the PEG graphical interface is appropriate for hand-held,
portable, and desktop embedded applications where a standard keyboard
and monitor user interface are too slow or cumbersome for the
typical applications user. The visual interface can be prototyped
on a host PC using the powerful PEG utility programs, allowing
rapid prototyping of the embedded GUI while avoiding the limitations
of the typical embedded prototype board.
CE-GUI
includes the PEG utility programs, Fontcapture, ImageConvert,
and Window Builder, which allow the system developer to quickly
design a customized user interface for the embedded application.
Input and output device drivers are designed for maximum performance,
yet take full advantage of device capabilities. C EXECUTIVE/PSX
and PEG are integrated into the CE-GUI package to allow developers
to easily take full advantage of target system hardware, yet accomplish
all development on convenient host systems.
C
EXECUTIVE is a ROMable, multitasking operating system kernel for
real-time embedded systems, and offers system designers a complete
execution environment for applications written in the C language.
PSX adds a 60% subset of POSIX.1 system calls to the basic C EXECUTIVE
kernel. PSX meets the requirements of mid-size applications, while
C EXECUTIVE is appropriate for smaller applications.
C
EXECUTIVE and PSX also have an optional file system, CE-DOSFILE,
which replicates the PC/DOS file structure on external media,
allowing systems using any supported CPU to read and write PC/DOS
disks. The file system provides contiguous files for use in high-performance
data acquisition applications. Other options include CE-VIEW,
which provides a flexible system-level debugging tool for testing
on the target system; CE-TCP, which is an optional TCP/IP communications
package; and CE-SNMP, which adds SNMP support. PPP is also available.
The
development package for CE-GUI is priced at $7495. Full source
code and unlimited binary distribution rights for one product
are included.
JMI
Software Systems pioneered the use of C for implementing real-time
kernels in 1981. Today C EXECUTIVE is used around the world in
tens of millions of products, including over half of the electronic
cash registers in Germany, laser printers from over 30 OEM manufacturers,
communication and weather satellites, and military and FAA radar
systems. JMI supports C EXECUTIVE with distributors in Europe,
Japan, India, South Korea, and Taiwan.
